What a lovely hotel. We were surprised to be upgraded to the Doges suite. Very elegant. Their breakfast room served the best coffee that I have ever tasted. Staff very helpful. Only a couple of minutes walk to St. Marks. Restaurants and shopping all around. And of course, the canals. I loved that the Columbina had its own little pier. Very exotic. Would definately stay here again.

Loved the beauty of St. Mark's Basilica. Also the Doge's palace. Almost every place we ate at was quite good. (We mosty stayed around that area). The gelato was wonderful. I shopped too much but what the heck. it was a holiday of a lifetime.

The room was very good, classically appointed and very clean. The bathroom was good too but had a few small details which could do with attention - seal round shower door over bath allowed water to escape onto floor. The breakfast was included and was very good, plenty of choice and only needed to pay extra if you wanted eggs, bacon/cooked ham. The staff were very nice, friendly and efficient. The location was only a few minutes walk from St Marks square and although not to easy to find the first time, we soon got used to the area. We would definitely recommend this hotel.

The food we had in Venice was a disappointment, even for Italian food, small portions, did not look freshly made and quite expensive for what you got. However, the Panini's and Ice creams from all locations we tried were very tasty and delicious. We would recommend a visit to the Doge's Palace and to explore the different areas on foot as you see so much more and get the feel for the narrow quaint streets.

Situated behind St Marks Square, excellent location, comfortable and friendly helpful staff.
Top Tip
Do all the sightseeing in St Marks Square first thing in the morning, avoid the queues to the Basilica and Tower before the crowds rush in. The Da Alberta restaurant, five minutes from the hotel is recommended but book beforehand to avoid disappointment. Be nosy, walk in to visit the fantastic interior of the Danieli Hotel on the watefront next to the Doges Palace. It's free unless you choose to have afternoon tea there at 3pm for 30euros a head!

Take a map before you go out and try to remember where you've been so you can retrace your steps. For a general appreciation of the scale of things, take the 42 vaporetto (water bus) all the way around the island.
If you intend to do alot of water bussing its worth buying a saver ticket from APTV (public transport)in advance.

We had a really enjoyable stay, the staff were very friendly. The room was nice but very hot even in November. Beware of the mosquitoes!! The hotel could have provided better protection from the mossies, by installing mossie nets at the windows. It's a shame the hotel bar closes at 11.00pm. A very pleasant stay in a wonderful city.
Top Tip
Even in November, please remember to buy/take insect repellant with you.
We found a couple of excellent restaurants 'Al Vagon' & 'Sempione'.
